The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/35 is a solar charge controller built for off-grid and battery-based solar systems. It accepts a maximum PV open-circuit voltage of 150V and delivers up to 35A of charge current, making it suited to residential, commercial and mobile off-grid installations that need accurate battery charging.

Charge controller for solar panel arrays

The 150/35 rating means the controller can accept panel strings with a combined open-circuit voltage of up to 150V, allowing series-connected arrays without a separate combiner. The 35A output suits battery banks common in off-grid cabins, narrowboats, campervans and small commercial sites. Its MPPT algorithm tracks the maximum power point as irradiance changes, which matters given frequent cloud cover and partial shading.

Installation notes

Fitting should be carried out by a qualified electrician or experienced installer. PV string open-circuit voltage must stay under 150V at all times, including the increase seen in cold weather. Battery chemistry and voltage should be checked in VictronConnect before commissioning, and any grid-connected or larger integrated system should follow current UK wiring regulations and G98/G99 requirements where relevant.
