Why pre-charging matters

Connecting a large inverter or inverter/charger directly to a battery bank without pre-charging causes a sudden surge of current into the internal capacitors. This inrush can spark at the terminals, trip protection devices, or damage input circuitry. The pre-charge cable adds a resistive element to the circuit that limits this surge, letting the capacitors charge gradually before the main connection goes on.
