Product overview

The gel electrolyte is immobilised rather than liquid, so the battery can be mounted in most orientations (except inverted) and copes better with vibration than flooded lead-acid types. That's useful where batteries sit in unventilated enclosures or vehicle-mounted boxes.

The C20 figure measures the 60Ah capacity over a 20-hour discharge. Higher currents over shorter periods reduce the usable capacity, which is normal for lead-acid chemistry, so size a system around C20 and derate for high-current loads. Victron's gel range pairs with Victron charge controllers and inverter-chargers that include gel-specific charge profiles.

As a VRLA battery it recombines charging gases internally under normal conditions, so it suits enclosed spaces, though ventilation is still advised as a precaution against overcharging.

Installation notes

Fit by a qualified electrician or experienced system integrator. Set the charge source to the correct gel profile: an AGM or flooded profile risks overcharging and can permanently damage gel cells. Install in a ventilated location away from heat sources and open flame, with terminals torqued correctly and protected against short circuit. Use an MCS-accredited installer for solar PV work where required by your DNO or insurer.
