The Victron Lynx Smart BMS 500 (M8) is a battery management system for lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery banks used in professional off-grid, marine and vehicle installations. It combines DC distribution, cell balancing control and system protection in a single DIN-rail compatible unit rated to 500A continuous, built for installers working on high-current 12V, 24V or 48V lithium systems that need centralised BMS control with VE.Can integration.

System role

Rather than sitting inside a single battery, the Lynx Smart BMS 500 manages the whole bank as one system. It communicates with individual Victron lithium smart batteries over VE.Can and coordinates charge and load disconnect signals across the installation. When connected to a Cerbo GX or Venus GX, it reports cell voltages, state of charge, temperature and alarm states so inverter/chargers and MPPT controllers respond correctly without separate relay wiring. It also handles pre-charge of inverter capacitors automatically during startup.

Applications

Used in large off-grid solar installations with Victron lithium battery banks, on marine vessels needing centralised lithium BMS control, in vehicle and motorhome conversions with high-capacity lithium systems, and in commercial or industrial off-grid power systems built around Victron MultiPlus or Quattro inverter/chargers. Installation notes

This unit must be installed by a qualified electrician or accredited installer experienced with high-current DC lithium battery systems. At 500A, incorrect wiring or undersized cable presents a serious fire or equipment risk. Full functionality requires a VE.Can connection to a compatible GX device, and Bluetooth configuration via VictronConnect is needed during initial setup. Confirm that every Victron lithium smart battery in the bank is compatible with the Lynx Smart BMS before commissioning.
