The Victron VM-3P5A is a three-phase energy meter built for use with Victron GX devices. Product overview

The VM-3P5A connects to a Victron GX device over RS-485 and reports real-time power, voltage, current and energy totals for each of the three phases. This feeds directly into the VRM portal and the local GX display, replacing inverter-side estimates with measured data.

Because the CT input is rated at 5 A, the meter itself carries no mains current. External current transformers clamp around the live conductors, avoiding the need to break the main supply cables. One unit can monitor the grid connection point while a second monitors a generator or sub-load, with role assignment handled in the GX device settings menu.

Installation notes

Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician, connecting to the AC distribution board via external current transformers and to the GX device over a wired RS-485 connection. Correct CT orientation is required for accurate import and export readings. Grid-connected UK installations must comply with G98 or G99 as applicable. Current transformers are not included and must be sourced separately to match the site's cable size and current rating.
