The Victron Smart IP43 Charger 12/50(3) is a three-output 50A mains battery charger for 12V battery banks. It runs from a wide 120 to 240V AC input, so it works on UK, European and North American mains supplies. How the charging works

Bulk phase pushes maximum current into the battery to bring it up to voltage quickly. Absorption then holds voltage steady while current tapers off, and float keeps the battery topped up without overcharging. A storage mode drops float voltage further for long-term care when the system is left unattended. Temperature-compensated charging is available with an optional Victron temperature sensor.

Three independent outputs

Each of the three outputs is isolated, so the charger treats each battery bank on its own state of charge rather than averaging across them. That matters on a boat or motorhome where a starter battery, house bank and auxiliary bank are rarely at the same charge level. VictronConnect handles setup and monitoring over Bluetooth, without a wired display connection.

Installation notes

Fit by a qualified electrician familiar with DC battery systems and mains AC wiring. Fuse the AC supply correctly and rate DC connections for 50A continuous. For lithium batteries, confirm the BMS accepts an external charger before connecting. IP43 gives limited water resistance, so install in a sheltered spot away from direct water and provide ventilation, as the unit generates heat in use.
