The Victron LiFePO4 12.8V 180Ah Smart is a lithium iron phosphate drop-in battery for 12V solar, off-grid and marine systems. It has integrated Bluetooth monitoring through the VictronConnect app, so state-of-charge and cell data can be checked without extra monitoring hardware.

Product overview

LiFePO4 offers a flatter discharge curve and better tolerance of partial state-of-charge cycling than other lithium chemistries. The 12.8V nominal voltage matches standard 12V system wiring and charge controller configurations, so no voltage conversion is needed.

The Smart designation refers to the built-in Bluetooth module. Through the VictronConnect app on iOS or Android, installers and users can read live state of charge, voltage, current and cell temperature data. This is useful during commissioning and for diagnostics in awkward locations such as boat bilges, motorhome battery compartments or off-grid cabins.

The internal BMS manages cell-level protection on its own, disconnecting load or charger if any cell goes outside safe voltage, temperature or current limits. Systems that need communication between the BMS and a Victron inverter/charger or MPPT may require a VE.Bus BMS or a compatible external BMS interface, depending on the system design.

Installation notes

Fitting should be carried out by a qualified electrician or experienced solar installer familiar with lithium systems. A charger or charge controller with a lithium-specific charge profile is required; lead-acid, AGM or gel settings must not be used. On a Victron MultiPlus or Quattro, the charge algorithm needs to be set correctly, and where BMS-controlled charge management is required, a compatible BMS communication interface should be used. The battery should be kept within its specified temperature range with adequate ventilation, and marine installations should be checked against relevant marine electrical standards.
