How it works

An isolation transformer couples the shore supply to the onboard system magnetically, without a direct electrical connection. This breaks the galvanic circuit that would otherwise let DC stray currents flow through the water between a vessel's hull and the marina earthing system. Left unchecked, those currents cause rapid electrolytic corrosion of propellers, shafts, anodes and through-hull fittings.

At 8000W, this unit carries the full electrical load of a well-equipped vessel or large vehicle installation, including air conditioning, battery chargers and general AC loads running together. The toroidal core keeps no-load losses low and limits the magnetic field radiated into the surrounding space, which matters in a confined bilge or locker. It operates at 230V, suited to European and UK shore power supplies.

Unlike a galvanic isolator, which only blocks DC, a full isolation transformer also protects against AC faults on the shore supply reaching the onboard system. That makes it the preferred choice where both electrical safety and corrosion protection are required.
