The Victron Smart IP43 Charger 12/50(1+1) is a three-stage mains battery charger for a 12V battery bank, delivering 50A on its primary output plus a second 4A output for a starter or auxiliary battery. It accepts a wide 120-240V AC input, so it works on shore power, generators or mains supply across the UK, EU and North America.

Battery compatibility

Works with lead-acid types including GEL, AGM, tubular plate and flooded batteries, as well as lithium LiFePO4 batteries with a suitable BMS. An optional remote temperature sensor allows temperature-compensated charging. Multiple Victron Smart chargers can synchronise on the same SmartNetwork for coordinated multi-charger installations.

Used on marine vessels to charge a house battery bank and starter battery from shore power or a generator. Suits motorhomes and coaches maintaining leisure and engine batteries during hook-up or storage. Also fits off-grid cabins, workshops and commercial vehicle fleets needing bulk or maintenance charging of 12V systems, and battery service workshops running programmable charge profiles.

Installation notes

Install using a qualified electrician or marine electrical engineer. The AC supply needs an appropriately rated circuit breaker, and the installation should comply with BS 7671 for land-based systems or the relevant marine wiring standard for vessels. Confirm the local AC voltage and frequency before connecting, and use correctly rated DC cabling to the battery bank to limit voltage drop at 50A. Check BMS compatibility before connecting to LiFePO4 batteries.
