Product overview

Gel batteries use a silica-based gelled electrolyte instead of liquid acid. This immobilises the electrolyte, reducing stratification and self-discharge compared with flooded lead-acid, and allows mounting in orientations other than upright. For solar installations that sit unused for periods, the lower self-discharge is useful in practice.

The deep cycle rating means the battery tolerates regular discharge to a significant depth of discharge, unlike standby batteries built for shallow float cycling. Correct charge voltage matters: overcharging is the main cause of premature gel battery failure, so the charge source needs a gel-specific profile rather than one set for AGM or flooded types.

At 62.5 kg this is a heavy unit. Plan for structural support, cable routing and safe handling, and torque terminal connections to the manufacturer's specification.

Applications

Suited to off-grid solar storage in residential, agricultural and remote installations, marine house battery banks, motorhome and leisure vehicle power systems, and backup power for telecoms, security or industrial equipment. Multiple 12V units can be wired in series for 24V or 48V banks.
