The Victron SmartShunt 300A IP65 is a battery monitor that tracks current, voltage, state of charge, consumed amp-hours and time-to-go, sending all readings over Bluetooth to the VictronConnect app. There is no screen on the unit itself, which keeps it compact and lets it sit closer to the battery bank than a monitor with a fixed display.

Where it fits

Because there's no display to read, the sealed IP65 body is happy in spots a standard monitor wouldn't tolerate: engine bays, bilges, outdoor enclosures, agricultural vehicles. It suits off-grid solar banks, marine installs, campervan and motorhome systems, and auxiliary power on HGVs or construction plant.

System integration

Bluetooth pairing lets the SmartShunt feed a Victron GX device (Cerbo GX, Venus GX and similar), putting battery data into the VRM portal alongside the rest of a monitored system.

Installation notes

Fit the SmartShunt in the negative line between the battery bank and every load and charge source, with only the battery negative wired directly to the shunt. Wiring it any other way gives inaccurate readings. Installation should be done by someone experienced with DC battery systems, and an MCS-accredited installer is recommended for off-grid solar work. Fuse the positive cable as the battery manufacturer specifies.
