The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/70-Tr is a solar charge controller built for off-grid and battery-based installations that need precise charging and remote oversight. It accepts up to 150V from the PV array and delivers up to 70A of charge current, with built-in Bluetooth for direct setup and monitoring through the VictronConnect app.

Battery compatibility

Charge algorithms are configurable through VictronConnect for lithium (LiFePO4), AGM, gel and flooded batteries, with a dedicated lithium algorithm and support for a stop signal from a Victron Battery Management System. A load output terminal allows DC loads to be switched directly from the controller based on battery state of charge.

Applications

The 150/70-Tr suits off-grid cabins and homes, marine and narrowboat systems, motorhomes and other vehicle-based arrays, and agricultural or rural sites where remote monitoring through VRM is useful. It also fits Victron-integrated installations built around a Cerbo GX or other GX device.

Installation notes

Fitting should be carried out by a qualified electrician or experienced solar installer. PV open-circuit voltage can reach 150V, so string sizing must account for cold-weather Voc rise and stay within that limit at all times. Battery-side wiring needs fusing sized for the 70A charge current, and lithium installations require a compatible BMS connection following the battery manufacturer's guidance.
