The Victron Orion 12/24-8 is a non-isolated DC-DC converter that steps a 12V input up to a 24V output at up to 8A continuous current, delivering up to 192W of converted power. Product overview
Because the design is non-isolated, input and output share a common ground reference. That keeps the unit efficient and compact, but it is not the right choice where galvanic isolation between circuits is required; Victron's isolated Orion-Tr range covers that case instead. The IP20 enclosure protects against solid objects larger than 12.5mm only, with no protection against moisture, so it needs a dry switchboard, control cabinet or ventilated battery compartment.
Applications
This converter is used to power 24V auxiliary loads, motors or lighting circuits from a 12V vehicle or marine battery bank, without running a separate 24V battery system. Typical settings include off-grid cabins, campervans, motorhomes, commercial vehicles, boats with a 12V house bank feeding a 24V circuit, and industrial control panels needing a 24V supply derived from 12V.
Installation notes
Fit the converter in a dry, protected enclosure away from moisture and condensation, with adequate ventilation to manage heat during continuous operation. As input and output share a common negative, this must be accounted for in the wiring design.
