The Victron BMV-700 is a battery monitor for 12V, 24V and 48V systems that tracks state of charge, voltage, current and consumed amp-hours in real time. Rather than relying on a voltage reading alone, it measures current through a precision shunt to give an accurate picture of what a battery bank is actually doing.

How it works

Current flowing in and out of the battery bank is measured through the shunt, fitted in the negative cable. Integrating this current over time gives a consumed amp-hour figure and a state of charge reading that is more dependable than voltage alone, since voltage shifts with load, temperature and recent charging.

The display connects to the shunt with the supplied RJ12 cable and draws power directly from the battery, so no separate supply is needed. The relay can be set to switch on state of charge, voltage or temperature (with an optional sensor), useful for load shedding, generator start signals or alarms.

Connectivity

Bluetooth is not built in. The VE.Direct port allows an optional VE.Direct Bluetooth dongle for wireless monitoring in VictronConnect, or connection to a GX device such as a Cerbo GX for remote monitoring via VRM.

Suited to off-grid solar systems, marine and narrowboat installations, motorhome and caravan leisure batteries, backup power systems and remote site installations where accurate battery state of charge matters.
