The Victron BlueSolar PWM-LCD&USB 12/24V-20A is a pulse-width modulation solar charge controller for small to medium off-grid solar systems. It automatically detects 12V or 24V battery banks and combines a built-in LCD display with a USB output port, making it a practical fit for cabins, caravans, boats and remote sites where charge status needs to be visible at a glance.

How it works

PWM controllers connect the solar panel directly to the battery once a set voltage threshold is reached, then switch the connection rapidly on and off to hold the correct charge level. This suits smaller systems where panel voltage is closely matched to battery voltage, and where the lower cost of PWM over MPPT is the priority. The LCD gives a clear read-out without a separate monitor or app, and the USB port is useful where mains power is not available. The load output with low-voltage disconnect helps in unattended sites such as remote monitoring stations or holiday properties.

Installation notes

Fit by a competent person familiar with 12V and 24V DC systems. Check the solar panel open-circuit voltage does not exceed the controller's rated input. Connect the battery before the solar panel, and disconnect in reverse order. Follow the relevant wiring regulations for boat or vehicle installations. This controller is not intended for grid-connected systems and does not require G98 or G99 compliance. Use appropriately rated DC fusing and cabling throughout.
