The Victron Argodiode 80-2SC is a diode-based battery isolator rated at 80A that charges two separate battery banks from a single alternator or charger. Current passes freely from the input to each output but cannot flow back between the batteries, so a starter bank and a leisure or auxiliary bank stay isolated from each other.

How it works

The Argodiode 80-2SC uses Schottky diodes, which have a lower forward voltage drop than standard silicon diodes. That keeps the voltage loss between input and output smaller, so each battery receives a charge voltage closer to what the alternator or charger actually produces. The alternator or charger connects to the single input terminal; each battery bank connects to its own output terminal. No relays, control wiring or battery management logic are needed, which keeps the installation simple.

Applications

Used in dual-battery systems in campervans, motorhomes and commercial vehicles, where a starter battery and leisure battery need independent charging. Also suited to marine installations isolating engine start and house banks, off-grid cabins with two battery banks on one charger or solar charge controller, and auxiliary battery setups on agricultural or plant machinery.

Installation notes

Mount the unit somewhere well ventilated, as the diodes generate heat under load. Cables on the input and output sides should be rated for 80A continuous current, with appropriate fusing on the input. If the charger or alternator has a voltage sensing line, connect it to a battery output terminal rather than the input to compensate for the diode voltage drop. Fitting should be carried out by a qualified auto-electrician or marine electrician familiar with dual-battery wiring.
