Tuxedo TC-530: the air kit that keeps a pneumatic changer alive is already on it

Pneumatic tyre changers rarely die of overwork. They die of bad air — moisture condensing inside the cylinders, no lubrication reaching the seals, and line pressure that spikes above what the valves were built for. Every one of those is preventable with three fittings, and on the TC-530 all three come as standard: a pressure limiter, a water separator and an oiler. That is an unglamorous thing to lead a product page with, and it is the single most useful thing to know about this machine, because it is the difference between a changer that is still accurate in five years and one that has been rebuilt twice.

The rest of it is a properly specified light-to-mid-duty machine. It uses a swing-arm layout — the arm swings clear rather than tilting back — so the working area opens up completely between wheels. Twin clamping cylinders drive the jaws, giving genuine holding force on the awkward fitments rather than the token grip a single-cylinder table manages. And the mount/demount head runs on a large-diameter hex shaft, chosen for rigidity: a shaft that flexes lets the head drift, and a head that drifts is the one that marks a rim. The machine is designed so it never makes contact with the rim at all.

Which wheels will it take?

On a tyre changer the fitment question is the whole purchase, and it is about wheel geometry rather than weight. The TC-530's working envelope:

• Maximum tyre diameter — 38″ (965 mm). The overall outside diameter of the assembled wheel and tyre, not the rim.
• Maximum rim width — 12″ (305 mm). Comfortable for passenger cars, vans and most light-truck fitments; genuinely wide performance wheels sit outside it.
• Inside clamping — 12″ to 23″ (305-584 mm). The range you will use for anything wide or delicate.
• Outside clamping — 10″ to 20″ (254-508 mm). The range for smaller rims, and the one that sets the machine's lower limit.

Work out the largest and the smallest wheels that actually come through your door — the real ones, not the aspirational ones — and check both ends against those four figures. A tyre changer that cannot take the outlier you see twice a week is a machine you will resent, and no amount of clamping force fixes a range problem.

What has to be in place behind it

• Electrical supply: 110V, 15 Amp, single phase. An ordinary shop circuit — no three-phase, no special installation, which is a large part of why this machine suits small workshops.
• Compressed air: 125 psi working pressure. The requirement that gets underestimated. Bead seating draws hard and briefly, so the compressor has to hold pressure through the demand rather than merely reach it on a gauge. Size the compressor first; the air treatment described above protects the machine, but it cannot supply volume that is not there.
• Floor and space: 560 lbs shipping weight, wanting a level floor and enough clearance to swing the arm and walk a wheel in from the side.

Verifying your circuit, your compressor and your floor before ordering is the buyer's responsibility. An undersized compressor is the most common reason a new tyre changer disappoints in its first fortnight, and it is not a warranty matter.

Bead seating without a second tool

The bead-seating inflation jets are integrated into the clamping jaws. The significance is where the air comes from: the burst arrives at the point where the wheel is already clamped, as part of the same operation, rather than from a separate hand-held device used after the wheel has been handled again. That makes the result repeatable — the same on the last wheel of the afternoon as on the first of the morning — and it takes one of the more hazardous moments in tyre work and builds it into the machine instead of leaving it to technique.

The bead breaker, placed where you use it

The breaker is mounted on the side of the machine, at the height it is used, with enough force behind it for the seized and corroded beads that are the real test. That sounds obvious until you have used a changer where the breaker is an afterthought bolted somewhere convenient for the designer. On a machine this size, where one person is doing the whole job alone, the distance between the breaker and the table is a number of steps repeated several hundred times a month.

A compressor, air line and wheel-weight stock are not included, and nothing beyond that list has been added.

Certification, stated plainly

Nothing in the data we hold for this machine makes a third-party safety-listing claim, and we will not manufacture one. There is a real difference between a maker declaring that its own product meets a standard and an independent testing body examining the product and issuing a listing — the second is a document somebody else's reputation stands behind. Certain insurers and commercial premises policies care about that difference for workshop equipment. If yours is one, settle the requirement with them before you buy, and ask us in writing what paperwork ships in the crate.

Shipping and delivery

Shipped as freight within the lower 48 states. The freight charge is calculated live at checkout against the address you enter, which is why no figure appears in this description — a printed price would be wrong within months. The crate weighs 560 lbs, and the driver will not unload it for you: you need a forklift, a dock, or a planned lift with enough hands. Tell us in advance if you have none of those and we will send the shipment to a freight terminal for collection. Deliveries to a residential address carry a residential fee. Before signing, walk around the crate and look at it — any damage must be recorded on the bill of lading at that moment, because a signature given clear is very hard to withdraw later. Warranty

The terms in force are on our warranty claims page. You will not find a coverage period written into this description, and that is deliberate: the term is absent from the product data we hold for this machine, and we are not prepared to print a figure we cannot source next to the word warranty. If the period is part of what you are weighing up, ask us in writing before you order. One rule survives whatever the terms turn out to be — nothing gets taken apart before a claim is open. A cylinder or valve block that has already been dismantled is usually the end of the conversation. Take photographs, call us, and let the claim be raised first.
