Ranger RWB-1TD Heavy-Duty Teardown Work Bench with Fluid Catch

Ranger RWB-1TD Heavy-Duty Teardown Work Bench with Fluid Catch

The feature that makes the RWB-1TD a teardown bench rather than a work bench with a tray on it is the removable drain: a 20" x 12" x 6" catch pan built into the top. Six inches deep is the number that matters. That is a volume that holds the contents of a differential, a transfer case or a wet transmission bellhousing without needing to be emptied halfway through the job, and it is deep enough that a case can be set down in it and left to drain while you work on something else.

Because the pan lifts out, it also empties into a waste drum without moving the bench, tipping the top or crawling underneath with a bucket. That sounds like a small thing until you have done a gearbox teardown on a bench that does not have it.

Will It Fit?

The bench measures 48" wide, 32" deep and 40" high. The height is deliberate and it is the specification to check first: at 40" this stands taller than a general-purpose bench, because a teardown bench is used standing, leaning in over a case, with your hands working down into an open housing. That extra height keeps your back out of it. If you intend to sit at this bench or use it as a general assembly surface, it will feel high — the RWB-2S and RWB-2D in the same family sit lower and are the better fit for that.

Allow the full 48" x 32" footprint plus standing room on the working side, and clearance to pull the drain pan and the drawer out toward you. Shipping weight is 256 lbs and the crate measures 50" x 33" x 14", so it arrives flat and needs assembly — Ranger publishes a single operation and assembly manual covering the RWB-1TD alongside its RWB-2S and RWB-2D siblings, which tells you to plan for a build rather than a delivery you can use the same hour.

Load rating: the published figure for this bench is 500 lbs. It appears in the manufacturer's product copy but not in the specification table, so it is not independently corroborated in the data we hold. If you are planning to set a complete engine down on this top, ask us to confirm the rating and how it is measured before you buy.

The Top, the Drawer and the Shelf

The table top is 48" x 32" of usable surface with the drain pan set into it. Underneath there is one drawer measuring 24" x 18" x 5.5" and one shelf.

Those two storage elements do different jobs and the sizes tell you which is which. A 5.5" deep drawer at 24" x 18" is a hand-tool and small-parts drawer: sockets, snap rings, the bag of bolts you must not lose during a teardown. The shelf below takes bulk — a parts washer tray, a drain pan, a case half waiting its turn. Nothing about that arrangement is glamorous, but a teardown that loses its fasteners is a teardown that becomes a reassembly problem, and a dedicated shallow drawer is the simplest insurance there is.

Built for Fluids, Not Just Around Them

A teardown bench lives a wetter life than a general bench. Gear oil, ATF, coolant and solvent all end up on it, and all of them attack a painted surface differently. Ranger's benches are finished after fabrication rather than before, so the coating covers cut edges and welds rather than stopping at them — the places where corrosion actually starts.

The removable pan is part of the same thinking. Fluid that is captured at the point it escapes never reaches the floor, which keeps a slip hazard off your slab and keeps the shop out of the awkward conversation about where the oil sheen by the drain came from. Empty the pan into a proper waste container, rinse it and drop it back in.

Perfect For

Transmission, differential and transfer-case work, which is what a fluid catch is for. Engine builders stripping and cleaning assemblies before measurement. Fleet and municipal shops doing component overhauls in-house. Serious home and race-shop garages where the alternative today is cardboard on a folding table.

What's in the Box

The bench arrives flat-packed with its frame, top with the fitted drain aperture, the removable drain pan, one drawer and one shelf, and the fasteners to assemble them. The operation and assembly manual Ranger publishes for this bench family covers the build. This listing does not itemise anything beyond that, so if you need a specific accessory, confirm it with us rather than assuming.

Certification, Stated Honestly

No third-party product listing is claimed for this bench and none is implied here. A work bench is not a lifting device, so the listing question that matters on a lift generally does not arise — but if your workplace policy requires load-rated furniture with documented test evidence, the 500 lb figure above is a manufacturer's statement rather than an independently verified test result, and you should ask for the underlying documentation before relying on it.

Shipping and Delivery

This bench ships by freight to the lower 48 states. The carrier delivers kerbside or to a dock rather than into the building, so you need to be able to take the crate off the truck or collect it from the terminal. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, quoted live at checkout with your freight. Inspect the crate before signing: a bench top with a dented corner is obvious in the crate and invisible once assembled, so note anything you see on the bill of lading at the moment of delivery.

Warranty

Ranger publishes a warranty statement covering its products, and it governs this bench. This listing does not state a term, so we will not quote one — ask us and we will send the current statement before you order. If something arrives wrong or fails, contact us before you modify, cut or re-drill anything: a bench that has been altered is a bench a warranty claim will not cover.
