Every dolly in this system rolls on four 3.5-inch steel ball bearing swivel casters, and that is the specification that determines what the product can actually do. Casters that swivel on every corner mean the vehicle moves sideways, diagonally or rotates about its own centre, which is the difference between parking a car and placing it. A dolly on fixed castors moves a car forwards and backwards; this one lets you slide a dead vehicle into a bay with a wall on three sides.

Each dolly is rated at 1,000 lbs. (454 kg) on its own. They are supplied in pairs, one pair handles one axle, and a four-wheel vehicle therefore needs two pairs — four dollies, supporting up to 4,000 lbs of vehicle between them, which covers most passenger cars and light trucks. That arithmetic is worth doing before you order, because a single pair will not move a car on its own.

Under the wheel. Each dolly measures roughly 15.5" x 23.5" (393 mm x 597 mm) and is deliberately low, so it goes under a tyre with minimal lifting. That is the point of a low-profile design: you are not jacking the car up just to get the equipment into position. Check the ground clearance around the wheel arches of the vehicles you expect to move, particularly anything with side skirts or a low front valance.

The floor. This is the constraint people forget. Small swivel casters need a smooth, hard, level surface. Sealed concrete is ideal. Expansion joints, drainage channels, gravel, worn asphalt and floor paint that has lifted will all stop a loaded caster dead, and a dolly that stops while the car is still moving is how a vehicle comes off it. Assessing your floor is your responsibility and it is the single most useful thing you can do before ordering.

Getting them in. The published shipping carton is 25" x 17" x 5" (640 mm x 431 mm x 127 mm) at 42 lbs. (19 kg).

What the published shipping figures do and do not tell you

An honest gap in the data, flagged rather than smoothed over: the listing states that the dollies are sold in pairs, and it publishes a single shipping weight of 42 lbs. (19 kg) and a single carton size. It does not say whether those figures describe one dolly or one pair. We are not going to assume, because the answer changes what a four-wheel set costs to ship and how much you are lifting off the truck. If that matters to your order — and it usually does when you are buying two pairs — ask us and we will confirm it with Ranger before you commit.

Deep wheel wells are the safety feature

The capacity number gets the attention, but the wells are what keep the vehicle where you put it. Each dolly has a deep, cradled well that the tyre drops into, and the tyre sits below the lip rather than balanced on a flat plate. That does two things. It centres the wheel, so the load stays over the caster pattern instead of drifting towards one edge as you push. And it physically resists the tyre climbing out sideways, which is the way an improvised roller fails — usually at the moment somebody changes direction.

Using them is deliberately simple. Roll the dolly to the wheel, centre it in the well, and press down so the tyre settles in. Then push. Because every caster swivels, small alignment corrections are made by hand, which is what you want when you are lining a car up flush to a wall or nose-to-tail with another vehicle in a tight bay. There is nothing to crank and nothing to pump.

Welded steel, because the load is not gentle

Each dolly is a welded steel frame with reinforced joints. Rigidity is not vanity here: when a full vehicle's weight rests on four small platforms, any flex in a frame turns into a twist, and a twisted dolly steers itself. Reinforced joints resist the fatigue that comes from being loaded, unloaded and dropped hundreds of times, and a welded structure copes with the chemicals, dirt and impacts a shop floor supplies for free.

Maintenance follows from that. Keep the casters and swivel joints clear of debris — a wrapped strand of wire or a stone in a wheel is what makes one corner stop turning — check the welds periodically, and look for bending or misalignment in a frame that has been overloaded. There are no hydraulics and no electronics, so nothing else can go wrong.

This item ships free within the lower 48 states, so there is nothing to add at checkout. If your order travels by freight, the carrier will contact you to agree a window, someone on site must be able to unload it, and terminal collection is available if you would rather fetch it. Ranger's written product warranty covers these dollies and we will supply the current document on request.
