Single-chip matters for an unglamorous reason — fewer inter-chip hops means lower latency between the sensor reading and the number on the display, and less heat to dissipate inside a cabinet that lives in a hot bay. The published resolution is 0.01 ounce and 1.4°, with balancing increments of 0.25 or 0.01 oz and stated accuracy of +- .5 gram (.025 oz).

The drive is one belt and nothing else

Ranger's Direct-Axis arrangement runs a single belt from the motor to the unbalance sensor. No gearbox, no chain, no intermediate stage — which removes most of the consumable parts a balancer would otherwise accumulate over a decade of service.
