Description

Challenger SAJ15: a 15,000 lbs rolling jack, and why you buy them in twos

A four-post lift raises the vehicle on its wheels. That is what makes it easy to live with and it is also its one limitation: the wheels are the last thing you can get at. A rolling bridge jack is the accessory that solves it — it rides on the lift's own accessory rails, sits under the frame between the runways, and lifts the vehicle off its suspension while the lift stays where it is.

The SAJ15 is Challenger's 15,000 lbs air/hydraulic version of that jack, and its defining number is not the capacity. It is the adjustable width: 43 in. to 53.5 in., set by hand at the jack, which is what lets one pair of jacks serve a compact car in the morning and a full-size truck after lunch.

Why width adjustment is the specification that matters

Frame rails, lift pads and pinch welds are not in the same place on every vehicle. A fixed-width jack forces the technician into one of two bad habits: reaching for adapters and stacking them until something touches, or accepting a contact point that is close to the right place rather than on it. Both put a load somewhere the manufacturer never intended.

Adjusting the jack itself instead moves the saddles to where the vehicle actually wants to be picked up. Across the 43 in. to 53.5 in. range that covers a wide span of what comes through a general repair shop, and the adapters supplied with the jack cover the pick-up points inside that span rather than being asked to do all the work themselves. It is a quieter kind of safety than a lock or a guard, but pads placed on the correct point are the reason a vehicle does not shift.

Air and hydraulics, not muscle

The SAJ15 is air over hydraulic. Shop air does the pumping, the hydraulics do the lifting, and the technician does neither. Compare that to what it replaces: a floor jack or a bottle jack wrestled into position under a vehicle that is already in the air, pumped by hand, at an angle, with your head where you would rather it was not.

Rolling it along the accessory rail rather than carrying it into position is most of the benefit. A jack that lives on the lift is a jack that gets used at the right moment instead of the moment somebody is willing to go and fetch it, and there is nothing to drag across the floor and nothing to trip over when the job is done.

Bought and installed as a pair

Rolling jacks work in twos and it is worth being explicit about that before you order. A single jack lifts one axle. Two lets you pick up front and rear independently, swap wheels at both ends without lowering the vehicle, and position the vehicle for suspension and brake work properly. The current page says it plainly — install a pair — and if you order one thinking it will do the job of two, you will be back.

They also need somewhere to go when they are not in use, and this is where the low-profile design earns its keep. Adjustable heights let the jacks sit low enough that they are not an obstruction between the runways, so the lift is still a lift when the jacks are parked rather than a lift with two things in the way.

The two-hand control, and what it is really for

Operation requires both hands. That is not an ergonomics choice, it is an interlock: while both hands are on the control neither of them is under the load, and the operator is necessarily standing where they can see what the saddles are doing. Two-hand operation is the kind of design detail buyers skim past on a spec sheet and technicians are grateful for the first time a saddle is not quite where they thought.

Will it fit your lift?

This is the question to settle before ordering, and it is the customer's to answer. A rolling jack must match the lift it goes onto: the accessory rail profile, the runway spacing and the rail height all have to suit. A jack that does not fit is not a warranty matter, it is a returns problem, so tell us the make and model of the four-post lift you own and we will confirm compatibility before you buy rather than after the crate lands. If you are buying lift and jacks together, we will match them for you.

Perfect For

  • General repair shops running four-post lifts that need wheels-free access for brake, tyre and suspension work.
  • Fleet and municipal garages where the vehicle list is wide and one fixed jack width would never suit it.
  • Tyre shops doing repetitive wheel-off work at both axles.
  • Serious home and collector garages where a four-post is used for storage as well as service and a bottle jack under a raised car is not an acceptable answer.

What's in the Box

  • One air/hydraulic rolling bridge jack, rated 15,000 lbs
  • Adjustable-width saddle assembly covering 43 in. to 53.5 in.
  • Adapters for reaching vehicle pick-up points
  • Two-hand control

Not included: the shop air supply, the four-post lift itself, and the second jack — jacks are sold individually and used in pairs. Ask us if you want them quoted as a pair.

Certification, stated honestly

We are not going to badge this accessory with a safety listing, because our data for it does not claim one. That is worth a sentence rather than a silence. A third-party safety listing is a document issued by an independent laboratory after testing; a manufacturer's own declaration is a different thing with a different weight, and neither is recorded against this product in the information we hold. Some insurers, fleet policies and local jurisdictions require specific listings on lifting equipment. If yours does, ask us before you order and we will go to Challenger for the current documentation on this exact part rather than guess on a product page.

Shipping and delivery

Rolling jacks ship by freight within the lower 48 states, priced live at checkout for your address. They are heavy and awkward for their size, so plan the unload: a forklift, a dock, or collection from the carrier's terminal. The driver will not unload for you. Delivery to a residential address is a separate service and carries a residential fee.

Inspect the crate before you sign for it. Look at the saddle assembly and the air/hydraulic unit for impact damage, and note anything you find on the delivery paperwork while the driver is present. Signing a clean receipt makes a later damage claim extremely hard to pursue.

Warranty

The warranty terms covering this jack are published on our warranty claims page, and we will confirm the current terms before purchase if you ask. If the jack fails, do not open it up. Photograph it as it sits, take it out of service, and contact us. Hydraulic components that have been stripped before inspection are almost impossible to assess, and that is the usual reason a good claim goes nowhere.
