BendPak V-Max Patriot 7580V-601: 7.5 HP of two-stage air on ordinary single-phase service

Shops that want a real two-stage cast-iron compressor usually hit the same wall. At 7.5 HP most of the market is three-phase only, and a building without three-phase service is then looking at a rotary phase converter, a utility upgrade, or settling for a smaller single-stage machine that will run flat out all day.

The 7580V-601 is the version of this compressor built for 1-Phase, 208-230V, 60 Hz supply. Same 100% cast iron four-cylinder pump, same 80-Gallon vertical ASME tank, same 175 PSI ceiling as its three-phase sibling — connected to the kind of service an independent workshop, a serious home shop or a rural building actually has.

What single-phase means at this size, honestly

Single-phase does not make this a small machine, and it does not make the install trivial. BendPak's recommendation for this model is a 50 Amp breaker on a dedicated circuit. That is real electrical work: a panel with the capacity to spare, correctly sized conductors for the run, and an inspection in most jurisdictions.

What it does mean is that the work is ordinary. An electrician can put in a 50 Amp single-phase circuit anywhere. Getting three-phase brought to a building that does not have it is a conversation with a utility, a lead time and a bill of an entirely different order — and that is the cost this model exists to avoid.

A magnetic starter is specified as part of the machine, so the thermal overload protection a motor this size needs is not a separate purchase or an installer's improvisation.

Will It Fit?

• Supply. 1-Phase, 208-230V, 60 Hz. Confirm the voltage at the panel, not on the nameplate of the machine next to it.
• Circuit. A 50 Amp breaker is the manufacturer's recommendation. Sizing the conductors for your run length is the electrician's job.
• Footprint. Vertical tank, so it trades floor area for height — see the dimensions note below, which is one of the figures this product's data does not state consistently.
• Weight. 936 lbs. (424 kg). The difficulty with a vertical compressor is not carrying it, it is standing it up in a doorway. Plan the route in before it arrives.
• Air and access. The pump is finned and air-cooled. It needs clearance around it to breathe and clearance above it to service the valves.

The pump is where the money went

Motor speed is 1,750 RPM. Pump speed is 625 RPM. That reduction, through dual drive belts, is what lets a machine this size sit at 78 dB and is why the internals see so few cycles for the air produced. Two belts rather than one also means less tension on each, which takes load off the pump bearings and lengthens belt life.

The cylinder arrangement is a "V-4" with finned cylinders giving 360° cooling. Cast iron matters here for a specific, unglamorous reason: heads and cylinders in iron keep their geometry under prolonged heat, while aluminium blocks with pressed-in sleeves are prone to distorting — and a distorted bore is a compressor that starts consuming oil. Disc-type valves are accessible without pulling the head or dismantling compressor piping, and the crankshaft is oversized ductile iron carried on tapered roller mains.

Between the two stages sits an intercooler, and after the pump an air-cooled after-cooler. Both exist to take heat — and therefore water — out of the air before it reaches the tank. An electronic drain valve is also specified, so what does condense is removed on a schedule instead of whenever somebody remembers the petcock.

Perfect For

• Independent workshops without three-phase service. This is the exact problem the model solves.
• Serious home and hobby shops. A two-stage cast-iron machine that a domestic-style panel can be built out to feed.
• Rural and outbuilding installations. Where a utility three-phase run is not on the table.
• Restoration, fabrication and tyre work. Continuous duty, 175 PSI, 80-Gallon reserve.

Certification to UL, CSA and ASME is stated in the manufacturer's specification for this model. Of those, ASME is usually the one that comes up in practice: it covers the tank and the safety valve, the components that contain and release the pressure. Delivered orders travel by freight within the lower 48 states, free of charge. Arrange the unload in advance: a forklift, a loading dock, or collecting from the freight terminal yourself. Deliveries to a residential address carry an added fee, which appears at checkout before you pay. When it arrives, look the crate over first and record any damage on the bill of lading in front of the driver. Signing clean and finding damage later leaves you with very little to work with.
