The HD-9XW Buys You Height, Not Floor Space

The BendPak HD-9XW is a 9,000 lb four-post lift built around a single decision: raise the runways high enough that a technician can stand and work underneath, without pushing the lift any wider than a conventional bay will take. Maximum rise is 82", and maximum lifting height measured to the top of the runway is 87" — while overall width stays at 110.25" and the columns stand 100.25" tall. That combination of a tall rise on a standard-width frame is the reason to choose this model over the shorter four-posts in the same capacity class.

Will It Fit?

Ceiling. The columns are 100.25" tall, so that is the minimum overhead clearance the lift itself needs before you add anything parked on top of it. If a vehicle will sit on the raised runways, add its height to the 87" maximum lifting height and compare the total against your ceiling — including garage-door tracks, light fixtures and any door opener in the path.

Floor width and length. Overall width is 110.25" and outside length is 198". Drive-thru clearance between the carriages is 86.5", which BendPak also states as 7 ft, and the width between the columns is 100.25", stated as 8.35 ft. Those two figures — not the overall width — are what a wide-body pickup's mirrors actually have to pass through.

Runways and wheelbase. Runways are 19" wide and 182.25" long. They are adjustable: width between runways is 35" or 41", which places the runway centerline at 56.75" or 63" and the outside edges at 75.75" or 82". Minimum wheelbase at the full rated capacity is 135". Shorter vehicles are still liftable at a reduced rating: 115" at 75% capacity, 95" at 50%, and 80" at 25%. A short-wheelbase vehicle concentrates its load toward the centre of the runways, which is why the derating exists — read that table before assuming a compact car is an easy load.

Power. The power unit runs on 220 VAC / 60 Hz / 1 Ph. Noise at the unit is rated 45 dB.

Your responsibility. Measuring the bay, confirming the concrete slab is suitable, and providing a circuit that meets the motor's requirement are the buyer's responsibility. Have an electrician confirm the supply before delivery day, and read the installation manual's site requirements before you commit to a location — moving a four-post lift after installation is possible with a caster kit, but pouring new concrete is not.

Where the Load Actually Goes

The 9,000 lb rating is not a single number you can distribute however you like. Maximum capacity per axle is 4,500 lbs at the front and 4,500 lbs at the rear. A vehicle with a heavily biased load — a truck with a loaded bed, or equipment on a trailer-style body — can be inside the total rating while being outside the per-axle rating. That is a real failure mode, not a paperwork detail, and it is the number to check when the vehicle is not a passenger car.

Lifting is by a single hydraulic cylinder mounted underneath the runway rather than in the column, with heavy-duty 3/8" aircraft cable carrying the load through the four columns. The cables, safety locks and sheaves are fully enclosed, which is partly a cleanliness argument and mostly a longevity one — an exposed cable collects grit, and grit is what wears a cable. The cable rollers are oversized and self-lubricating, and the roller axles are 1.25". Internal anti-sway slider blocks in each column keep the carriages from rocking as the load shifts, which is what you feel when you push on a raised vehicle.

Locking, and Getting Back Down

Each column carries multi-position safety locks on adjustable lock ladders. Once the runways are raised and set on the locks, the mechanical locks — not the hydraulics — are holding the vehicle. This matters most for storage: a lift used for parking spends weeks at a time loaded, and hydraulic pressure is not what you want carrying that duty.

Perfect For

• The home garage with real ceiling height. If you have the overhead room, this is the model that lets you park a truck or SUV underneath rather than only a low car.
• The service shop that also stores. Open-centre runways and rolling-jack compatibility mean it works as a maintenance lift, not only a parking lift.
• Collectors stacking two vehicles. The 17 lock positions, spaced every 4", let you set the top vehicle exactly as high as the ceiling allows and no higher.
• Fleet and municipal shops handling light-duty trucks and vans within the per-axle limits above.

What's in the Box

The lift ships as a freestanding four-post assembly: four columns, runways with the rail kit, the electric-hydraulic power unit, cables, locks and removable approach ramps. Items BendPak lists as optional are not included and are ordered separately — caster kit, drip trays, solid deck, drive-thru ramps, longer approach ramps, and the RJ-45 rolling jacks. If you need any of those on day one, add them to the order rather than assuming they arrive with the lift.

One figure to confirm with us before you measure your bay

Two of BendPak's own documents give this lift a different overall length: one states 224" and the other states 224.5". The difference is half an inch and will not change most installations, but if your bay length is tight enough that half an inch decides it, contact us and we will confirm against the current factory drawing rather than guess.

Certification, Stated Plainly

BendPak states that the HD-9XW is certified to the ANSI/ALI ALCTV-2011 lift safety standard, and separately that it is CE approved and certified as meeting or exceeding European Standard EN-1493. It is also listed as ETL approved. Those are three different documents doing three different jobs: a North American third-party lift safety listing, a European conformity declaration, and an electrical product listing.

If your insurer, your fleet policy or a local inspector requires a particular listing, ask them for it by name. Certification is maintained per model and can change over time, so we will confirm the current status with you before you order rather than after the lift is installed.

Shipping and Delivery

Ships by freight to the lower 48 states, free of charge. You must be able to unload the shipment or take pickup at the carrier's terminal — it arrives crated and heavy, so plan for a forklift, a loading dock, or an equipment trailer and enough hands. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee.

Inspect before you sign. Check the crate and its contents while the driver is present and note any damage on the bill of lading before signing. A clean signed BOL makes a freight damage claim very hard to pursue.
