The collars create the watertight yet removable joint between the union body and the check valve, allowing the valve to be removed for service without cutting the pipe.

Dual union collar threads are subject to cyclic loading each time the check valve is removed for inspection and reinstalled, which gradually reduces the thread engagement over time. How to Use

Thread each collar onto the corresponding union body of the Dual Union Check Valve 2.0 by hand until the gasket contacts the seating face. Tighten each collar one half-turn further to compress the gasket and create a watertight seal. Do not use thread sealant tape on union collars as the gasket provides the seal. To service the check valve, unscrew both collars by hand and remove the valve body. Inspect the gaskets each time the valve is removed and replace if they show flattening or cracking.
