Ponds receiving runoff from leaf-heavy catchments, newly installed water features with fresh wood or bark, or systems recovering from chemical treatments often exhibit persistent discolouration, off-odours, or elevated tannin content that biological filtration alone cannot address. Activated carbon fills this gap through adsorption, physically capturing dissolved molecules on its enormous internal surface area. A 1 kg charge typically remains effective for four to eight weeks before becoming saturated and requiring replacement.

How to Use

Place the required amount of activated carbon into a fine-mesh media bag (approximately 500 g to 1 kg per 4,000 litres / 1,000 gal of pond water for polishing applications). Position the bag in an area of high water flow within the filter chamber or waterfall filter box. Monitor water colour and odour, and replace the carbon charge every four to eight weeks or sooner if noticeable discolouration returns. Do not use activated carbon simultaneously with pond medications, as it will adsorb the active compounds and reduce treatment effectiveness.
