AMGO DX-12A: a 12,000 lb Alignment Scissor With a 9,000 lb Jack Built In

The specification that separates the DX-12A from an ordinary alignment scissor is the second lift inside it. Under the main 12,000 lbs platform sits an auxiliary scissor rated at 9,000 lbs, with its own 16 1/2″ of travel and a runway that adjusts from 63″ to 74″. Raise it and every wheel comes off the deck — brakes, tyres, suspension and alignment work all happen with the vehicle supported at the frame and the corners free.

That is the difference between a rack you align on and a rack you also work on. Without it, a wheels-free job means rolling a separate jack into the bay, positioning it under a vehicle that is already in the air, and finding somewhere to store it the rest of the week.

What Wheels-Free Actually Buys You

A brake job on a fixed runway means jacking each corner in turn. A suspension inspection means the geometry is loaded, so worn bushings and ball joints hide. Alignment prep means checking for play that a loaded wheel will not show you.

The auxiliary platform removes all three problems at once. It lifts within the main deck, so the vehicle never leaves the rack and never has to be repositioned. 9,000 lbs of secondary capacity is enough for the same vehicles the main 12,000 lbs platform is carrying, and the 63″ to 74″ adjustment means the pads land on the lift points of a narrow car and a wide truck alike rather than on whatever is closest.

The Safety Stop at 11 3/4″

Most lift safety features protect the vehicle. This one protects the person walking past it. Coming down, the DX-12A stops at 11 3/4″ and will not continue to the floor unless both control buttons are held, with an audible tone sounding throughout the final descent.

The reasoning is worth spelling out, because it is the height at which a lowering platform is genuinely dangerous: low enough that a technician is no longer thinking about it, high enough to trap a foot, a toolbox or a creeper. Requiring two hands puts the operator's hands demonstrably on the controls rather than near the vehicle, and the tone tells everyone else in the bay what is happening. It is a deliberate design decision, not a convenience feature.

The Parts That Wear, and What They Are Made Of

Scissor lifts do not usually fail at the cylinder. They get sloppy at the sliders and the pivot bushings, and once there is play in those the platform no longer settles the same way twice — which on an alignment rack shows up as readings you stop trusting.

AMGO builds this one with self-lubricating UHMW polyethylene sliders and bronze bushings. Self-lubricating means there is no grease schedule to forget on the surfaces that take the sliding load, and UHMW polyethylene is chosen for exactly that job: low friction, high abrasion resistance, quiet under load. Bronze bushings at the pivots do the same work at the points that see rotation rather than sliding. Neither is the low-cost way to build a scissor, and both are visible in the specification rather than buried.

The synchronisation cylinders are equipped with hose burst valves — if a hydraulic line lets go, the valve closes and the platform stays where it is rather than descending with the pressure.

Will It Fit?

  • Floor length. 257″ overall including the ramps, with a runway length of 196 1/2″. Add approach room in front.
  • Floor width. 86 1/4″ overall, with 37″ between the runways.
  • Ceiling. Maximum lifting height is 72 13/16″. Your usable height must cover that plus the tallest vehicle you intend to raise, measured to the lowest fitting hanging from the roof rather than to the roof.
  • Drive-on height. 12 5/8″ at its lowest — the number to check against a low front lip or an aftermarket splitter.
  • Alignment window. Four-wheel from 85 13/16″ to 166 9/16″; two-wheel to 172 7/8″. Check these against your usual vehicle mix before you check anything else.
  • Power. A 2.0 HP unit; the cycle is listed at 64 seconds. Voltage, breaker size and disconnect are in the manual supplied with the lift and linked further down this page — have a licensed electrician confirm them for your building before delivery day.
  • Floor. AMGO states the required slab depth and strength in that manual, and meeting it is the buyer's responsibility. An alignment rack also wants a flat floor, not merely a strong one; the lift can only be as level as the concrete under it.

Certification, Stated Honestly

AMGO's data for the DX-12A does not claim a third-party safety listing for the lift, and we are not going to imply one by writing a badge onto this page that the product data does not support.

What matters is whether that affects you. Some shop insurers, some fleet contracts and some local jurisdictions require a lift to hold a third-party safety listing from a recognised North American body before they will insure it or sign it off. If you are in one of those situations, ask whoever imposes the requirement to name the listing in writing, and then speak to us before you order so we can check the position for this model with AMGO. It is a much easier conversation before the rack is on your floor than after.

Shipping and Delivery

Freight only, lower 48 states, and it arrives as more than one package — AMGO's packing data lists a long crate for the rack alongside a separate carton. Count everything against the packing list before the driver leaves.

Unloading is yours to arrange. At 5,728 lbs gross that means a forklift with capacity in reserve, a telehandler or an overhead crane; the delivering driver will not do it and is not equipped to. Where a site cannot unload, terminal pickup is the calmer route, and warehouse pickup is available where offered.

Inspect before you sign anything. Photograph any crush, bend or gouge and write it onto the bill of lading while the driver is still there. Once a clean bill of lading is signed, the carrier's position is that nothing was wrong on arrival.

Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, and freight is quoted live at checkout against your ZIP code rather than estimated in advance.
