Description

3‑Module 1000 V DC Type 2 PV Surge Protector – SPD PV1000

Protect your solar investment with the SPD PV1000, a purpose‑built Type 2 surge protection device designed for the DC side of PV systems. This compact 3‑module unit safeguards inverters and DC cabling from lightning‑induced surges and switching transients.

Why it’s ideal for solar installations

  • Optimised for PV arrays – The SPD PV1000 is rated up to 1000 V DC (1060 V continuous) and is specifically designed to sit before the inverter.

  • DIN‑rail mounted & pluggable – Modules clip onto a standard DIN rail and are pluggable/replaceable, so maintenance is fast and downtime is minimised.

  • Status indication & remote signalling – A built‑in window clearly indicates module condition (green = OK, red = replace). For remote monitoring, signal contacts are provided (signal line up to 1 mm²).

  • High energy dissipation – The device handles 20 kA nominal discharge current and 40 kA maximum discharge current on an 8/20 µs waveform, with a sub‑25 ns response time, shunting surges safely to earth.

  • Durable & compliant – It carries UKCA and CE approvals, conforms to IEC 61643-1/EN 61643-11 standards and features a robust grey UL94 V‑0 plastic housing rated IP20. A 10‑year guarantee provides peace of mind.

Technical highlights

Installation & use

Mount the SPD PV1000 on a 35 mm DIN rail, connect it to the DC array between the PV strings and the inverter, and ensure an appropriate DC backup MCB or fuse (32–63 A recommended) is fitted. Pluggable modules make replacement straightforward, and the remote signalling contact can be wired into monitoring equipment for system status alerts.

Protect your PV investment

Transient overvoltages can irreparably damage expensive inverters and halt energy production. By installing the SPD PV1000, you’re adding a robust, standards‑compliant safety barrier to your solar array that reacts in nanoseconds and dissipates high‑energy surges. With its 10‑year guarantee and easy maintenance design, this surge protector is a smart, long‑term addition to any photovoltaic installation.
